Wine reminds us to be thankful for life, health, family.  All the things making us smile, that are rounded and riled by joy.

Last night with the Nurse and my neighbor, telling stories and laughing, talking about plans and travel.  Dreams and goals, everything that’s possible…. It humbled me, last night.  Didn’t expect these thoughts this morning.  Or maybe I did…. Sitting in the kitchen, smiling.

Fearlessness in this new wine story absolutely overtakes me.  Every day being so excited with the newest project, idea, brainstorming tasting notes and how I want to order a certain type of barrel.

Fighting to get back there, in that place.  One of my clients is a smaller winery but is soon expanding and moving into a new facility.  Construction I believe starts at the beginning of March, so just over a month away.  On the call with them this morning talking about tanks and connecting the tanks to a network for remote monitoring, and crush pad logistics, and winemaking needs concerning tech…. This absolutely has to happen.

Think my first big step is going to be designing my own list, what wines I want to make, speak from.  Of course as the Nurse will tell you, Sauvignon Blanc.  And yes, a Chardonnay.  Syrah for sure, and that’s where I halt.  Do I have to make a Cab?  Zin?  Last night sipping Pinot with the Nurse threw me into a rich and deep daydream toward Pinot, something I haven’t experienced in years.

This blog and whatever books sprouting and stemming from it, changing shape.  Everything connecting to my vineyard story.  Walking, taking pictures, last night with the Nurse and my neighbor Jenny who works for I believe an importer now.  Even objects and rooms, people, occurrences and interactions that have nothing to do with wine or my wine story get absorbed.  My youngest son, Henry, with his playful ways and qualities, seeing him on the crush pad one day asking questions, hosing down a bin that just had clusters taken out.

This story is about getting back to wine’s industry, I guess, but more so having the story that doesn’t move, doesn’t change… wine is passion and doing what you love and what you have to do not because you have to do it, but because it’s who you are.
