Selling wine.  Interesting.  Yes you sell but you don’t.  I’ve always seen it as a sharing of

interest or passion and it doesn’t necessarily have to be connected to wine.  Friend of mine recently saying she wants to come back to the industry but doesn’t want to do production or tasting room.  I ask her what she wants to do.  Still no answer.  It’s an interesting industry, I come from the selling side, but if you’re not aiming for that or production, I say just start with your love of wine, the vineyard, Sonoma or Napa or wherever you’re from.

With wine, always start with the obsession to want to know more, experience more of it.  Be int he story, walking vineyard blocks.  Whether it’s for work or not.. wine is not a mechanism or instrument.  It’s a ever-present phantasm, teaching you.  But you have to listen, you have to be open to the words from the entity.

When I “sell” any wine, I speak of it like as if it were living.  And it is, there is no ‘as if’.  LIFE, not sales.  Madness in the love, not work.  Make the work your love.  Don’t seek a salary number.  This could be inwardly directed, I’ll concede.
